Besides having an expressive voice, what other qualities do you think a good voice actor must have?

In Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the characters of Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart are voiced by Hollywood celebrities Steve Burton and Rachel Leigh Cook. Do you think the characters would work well if they were voiced by other folks? What would you look for if you had to cast actors for an animated movie?
