True or false: Prior to the Enlightenment, human thought was dominated by religion rather than philosophy.?

The Enlightenment, a philosophical movement of the eighteenth century, was primarily a philosophical backlash to what was considered the superstitious beliefs of the seventeenth century. In of itself, it was not a anti-religious movement. There was still, generally a strong belief in religion, but it became less centralized with a movement toward individual worship and belief as opposed to firm establishment of a strong church.
