What do you do when your bf tells you he doesnt know if he could ever love you because he was hurt in the past?

me and my bf have been dating for about 3 in half months .I spend every single day with him, he is the best, he is anything i could ever ask for in a guy. Smart, generous,caring handsome . but we recently been talking about the status of our relationship and he told me he doesn't know if he could ever love me because he was hurt in the past. he told me he doesn't know how to love again? its kinda hard and i dont really blame him for saying it, because he was with his X for six years and they have a baby together. He and I started dating after they were separated for six months, and she has already moved on as well. Which leads me to my question should i stay or should i go should i keep trying or should i just save my self the heartache.
